Chattooga County Sheriff Confirms GBI Investigation into Previous Administration’s Use of Funds

AllOnGeorgia reached out to Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader for a statement regarding any ongoing or referred investigations into the use of county funds during the previous administration.

Sheriff Schrader provided the following response:

“In regard to your request for information, please find the following statement. This is a current investigation, so releasable information is limited.

On March 17, 2025, I requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation to investigate a complaint that was referred to my office. My investigators were given documents from county officials related to what was being reported as questionable activities on a couple of accounts, including the proposed Menlo internet project.
I reviewed the documents and spoke with the county auditor. The county auditor confirmed that there were issues regarding activity with these accounts. We determined that some of the issues could be related to record keeping but other issues could be indicative of criminal activity. Based on this, I asked for the GBI’s assistance to investigate the matters.”
