The 2025 Chattooga Indians football team started Spring Practice on Thursday, May 1st. The Indians must replace a lot of multi-year starters, and this spring is an opportunity for some players to step up and take the lead in multiple positions. One of these positions is Quarterback. The potential prospects for this position are Brock Cooper, Abe Veatch, and Braxston Lyons. “I expect this season to exceed everyone’s expectations, and I can’t wait to show everyone what Chattooga is capable of,” Indian Head Coach Roone Gable said.
“Replacing Zayden Cook is a huge task, and we will not ask just one player to fill that role.” Coach Gable stated. “We are changing our offense to get more people involved and be a little more balanced offensively. Not only are we replacing the state’s leading rusher from last year but also a dual threat player in Quarry Gibson at QB and WR. Quarry accounted for over 1200 yards of offense as well so replacing him is a priority too.” Our strength will be our offensive line led by 4-year starter Luke Reece. Along with Reece, Fletcher Crowe and Koi Dodd have been 3-year starters and Dakhari Black and Rylan Ledford have been two-year starters. Four-Star Defensive Lineman Kadin Fife will play on the offensive side of the ball this year. We are excited about the new offense and need a strong spring to improve and develop players.
Defensively we will be very similar to last year but must replace numerous All-Region players at the Linebacker spots and in the Defensive backfield. “Same as our offense, our strengths will be our big guys up front led by Kadin Fife, Koi Dodd, and Luke Reece.” Our front four guys must play well and give our younger guys time to develop and get game reps. We are also counting on multi-year starters Aiden Fletcher and D’Javi Freeman to help us not only on defense but also on the offensive side of the ball as well.
“We have had a very good off season in the weight room. Guys have gained weight and gotten bigger and we have seen good growth in the maxes in the weightroom.
The coaches are very excited, and we look forward to a great spring. Our spring scrimmage will be against a very good opponent in North Murray High School. They are a perennial playoff contender, and they will be well coached. We will have to be ready. But our goal is to return to the playoffs and to compete for Region Championships so to reach that goal we have to face opponents who will push us to get better.”
This Scrimmage will take place at 7 pm on Thursday May 15th.
